Good Shepherd Home Christmas visit

This week we all went to the Good Shepherd Home and  performed a Christmas concert. We went there because we wanted to do something good for the community. My friends and I got in a group and decided to sing a song called The Bear Necessities (a song out of the movie The Jungle Book). At first we made up some actions to the song and some dance moves. When we had finished making up the moves we showed our teacher and she said that our voices didn't sound clear because they were bobbing up and down while we where singing the song, so we only did the actions. When we got to the old peoples home we sat at the sides of the stage and waited for all of the old people to get there. The concert started and finally it was our turn. We got up on the stage and did our part to help the community. We did a great job and I felt very proud of myself!

Emotions Poem

An emotion poem is a poem which has our five senses in it and they are taste, smell, look, sound and feel. It always has an emotion that you talk about like anger, love, hate, joy and fear. The emotion poem that I wrote is on love, I hope you enjoy it!

LOVE

Love is like a red ruby.
It tastes like the sweetest candy,
And it smells like a beautiful red rose.
Love looks like a flowers budding petals.
It sounds like the prettiest music.
Love feels like a babbies hand.

Another Free Verse Poem

I wrote this poem because my family loves music and I love it to!

MUSIC
Music is like a humming bird
which always likes
to sperad its wings
and sing a little song.
Music is like a tune
which always seems to bloom.
Music is like bunch of farmyard friends
which noisey noises never really ends.
Music is my favourite thing
I like to dance
and I like to sing.
I love to sing
and I like to do everything!

I hope you liked it!

Free Verse Poem

At school we were writing a free verse poem which is a poem that has lots of language features and I am going to tell you mine.

LOVE

Love is like a red rose
which always seems to bloom.
The cars,
the stars,
the moons,
the spoons,
and even the Universe
wouldn't be the same without love.
With the love
that we all share
in this wide world
we could do anything.
Just to think that
if we didn't have our beloved God
we wouldn't have anything-
no cars,
no stars,
no moons
no spoons
no anything!
I love love,
so you should love it to.

I hope you liked my poem.

My play

At school we have been practicing a play during performing arts and at lunchtimes. We have formed a small group of about 7. Our play is called "Princess Euphorbia." It is about a girl who has green hair and nobody wants to marry her. It's a bit silly because when she does find somone she kisses him and he turns into a frog.
It has been quite interesting making costumes and props. We have had a load of fun and we are looking forward to performing the play at an old people's home in our area.

In our Inquiry into a network of friends and a networked community we have been talking about how we can be a friend to people in our community.
We were thinking that we could have a foundation box at our concert and people could put money into it. Some members of the group want to donate the money to the RSPCA which is a refuge for abandoned animals. We could also donate any money raised that we can raise to a charity which could help children - something like Ronald McDonald House, the Women's Shelter, Camp Quality, Make a Wish Foundation, the Children's hospital or World Vision.

We need to do lots more rehearsing to be ready for performances!
Stay tuned!!!

Term 4

This term my class and I have been learning what a true friend is. For homework we were asked to write an acrostic poem with the word friend and I am going to show you mine.

Fair, fun, forgiving and fantastic true friends should be.

Really cool friends are also respectful, reliable and responsible.

Ideal, inspiring and interesting my true friends are.

Exceptionally exciting and entertaining I would like my friends to be.

Neighbourly, nice and nurturing great friends are.

Devoted a good friend is.

I hope you enjoyed the acrostic poem I wrote!!!

Global warming

A couple of days ago my principal gave a talk about global warming. He warned us that if we keep doing what we are doing now to our environment, in 2050 we will be wearing oxygen masks. So if you are about nine years old and you have children, when they grow up they won't get to go and play outside, get fresh air, exercise or see their family and that would be terrible!!! So if you don't want yourself and your precious kids to have a good, fun life you could recycle, walk to school, don't use too much water and turn your lights off- and this is not all that you could do!

Bullying

I think bullying is a waste of time. I would rather be kind or helpful. If I see someone getting bullied I try and do something about it like tell a teacher or an adult that I know. Through what I have seen I think bullying is caused by someone wanting to be more important than another person. I have been bullied once and it feel terrible! So if I were you I would never bully. I would rather just be kind or do other nice things like being helpful, friendly or nice.

Here are the some of the steps of my science fair. I am testing what music out of slow, calm tai-chi music and fast rock music is best for accuracy and speed when doing maths. I hope you like it.

Aim
What type of music is best for accuracy and speed when doing maths?

Hypothesis
I think slow tai-chi will be the best to work with because it is calmer than rock music. With slow tai-chi music, you should get more done and have more correct answers.

Apparatus
  • two lists of similar maths sums
  • slow tai-chi music
  • fast rock music
  • boom box (CD player)
  • timer
  • two people to test
Results
While the calm tai-chi music was playing, Mum and Dad completed 30 - 32 sums each with 100% accuracy. While the fast rock music was played, Mum and Dad completed only 14-22 sums each and both of them made mistakes.

Conclusion
My results have told me that my hypothesis is correct. My results support my hypothesis that slow music is best to work with. Both participants completed more sums and were 100% accurate with Tai-chi music. They were faster and more accurate with the calm music.

The calm music we played was by Ken Davies - his music is playing now with the slide show above. Below is the URL you can go to, to hear the rock music by the Foo Fighters which we played in our investigation.

My sketch of Edward

Me and my class have read a book called "Edward Tulane". This book has a motto and I am going to tell you about it.
"The heart breaks and breaks
and lives by breaking.
It is necessary to go
through dark and deeper dark
and not to turn."
When we finished the book we did a sketch of the tall, china rabbit, Edward Tulane and this is a picture of my sketch. It is the top one.

My favourite part of this story is when Abilene comes into the shop when she all grown up and buys Edward.
It is a great book!!!

My blogging

I had a blogging session with my mum today and it was really fun!!!

My Science investigation

For my science fair I am going to test what music out of fast rock music and slow Thai-Chai is best for accuracy when doing maths.I am guessing that slow Thai-Chai music will be the best for accuracy when doing maths.I am going to tell you how to do my science experiment!
Apparatas
*two lists of similar maths sums
*slow Thai-Chai music
*fast rock music
*boom box
*timer

Method
1. Find three people and give them twenty seconds to work on a list of maths sums with rock music on the boom box.
2. Now test the same people for twenty seconds with a similar maths sums playing the Thai-Chai music.
3. Put the volume of music at the same level for both tests.
4. Do this test at the same time each day.
5. look at the scores each person got on both tests and draw up a table showing your results.

I hope you enjoyed this experiment that I made!!!
